The mother-child relationship is one that forms a close attachment with the mother being the primary caregiver.
The mother archetype is a universal archetype and in Jungian Psychology, it forms one pf the inherited Archetypes in our collective unconscious. The subjective experiences a kid has with the Mother also forms the Imago leading to a Mother Complex.
Mothers however had their own issues and unresolved traumas from childhood. And it may be false if we said that our Mothers were all the same- hence we have different imagos pf our mothers based on our subjective experiences.
The different types of Mothers include;
1. The Missing (Absent) mother- Whether physically or emotionally Unavailable mothers. Physically absent might have gone missing unfortunately due to death or neglect.
2. The Devouring Mother- This type might provide too much more than necessary presence to his kids. The suffocating mother.
3. The Ambivalent Mother – In between the two above lies the Ambivalent mother who has a share of Qualities from the Absent and Devouring mother. The mother might be emotionally or psychologically inconsistent.
4. The Collapsed Mother- Mother who might have been incapacitated out of mental or physical challenges fall in this category. This makes it harder for them to meet there needs.
5. The Dragon – Some mothers see their partners and kids a source of power and control. They might fall in this category. The dragon might be abusive in nature.
6. The Emotionally Cold Mother – She might be stoic in nature. Dismissive or ignore his kids needs and desires. Kids want love, warmth and attention but from the stoic mother, these needs seems unattainable.
7. The Unmothered Mother- Motherhood is a role that requires skills and in case where the mother lacks experience or knowledge on how being a good parent means, we get the Unmothered Mother.
